Care Act 2014 - template letters for autistic people and their families to use with local authorities

In partnership with

The Autism Alliance has worked with legal experts at human rights law firm Rook Irwin Sweeney to develop a set of template (or ‘precedent’) letters on the Care Act 2014, covering a range of potential scenarios that families might face in securing the right care and support for an autistic adult. The template letters need to be personalised by families to reflect their specific situation, including whether they are being sent by an autistic adult or by their family/carer(s).

Alongside this, Rook Irwin Sweeney LLP are able to consider requests from families and charities wishing a solicitor to act on their behalf. Click here to access their contact form.

In each letter:

  • Red text is to be personalised according to the details of the individual’s/family’s situation.

  • Gold text provides specific instructions for some sections of the letters. These instructions should be deleted before the letter is sent.

  • Yellow highlighted text shows where either one form or words OR another form of words can be included. (The form of words not used should be deleted.)
